Arquette shared his feelings about Coco and the divorce in a Q&A with The Guardian, published on Jan. 23, in which he answered a series of short questions. Cox and Arquette met on the set of the 1996 movie Scream. When they married in 1999, she was 35 and he was 28, and apparently, age played a role in their relationship. In an interview with Howard Stern in 2010, the year he and Cox separated, Arquette said that his wife was tired of feeling like his mother. “She says that to me: ‘I don’t wanna be your mother anymore.’ I appreciated that. I respected that. I’ve been going to therapy. I’m trying to grow up,” Arquette said at the time (via People). He continued, “She’s the greatest woman I’ve ever met. Now, yes, she’s got her issues. She tries to take on everybody’s problem. In the years since their split, Arquette and Cox have worked together to co-parent Coco and to get their relationship to a positive place. “We’re co-parents to our daughter who’s 16 so we have a really great relationship,” Arquette told Yahoo! in a 2020 interview. “We’re friends, and we’ve communicated a lot because of Coco.” When she appeared on Running Wild With Bear Grylls in 2016, Cox spoke out about their relationship. “We found ourselves leading separate lives and just coexisting and being great friends, but not having the intimacy that… is so important in a relationship,” she said (via E!
